A festive open letter
So this is how we're doing Christmas!
It’s with a heavy heart that we listened to the announcement confirming that we will remain in Tier 3 for now and we won’t be able to open our doors for the foreseeable. If it means that our community keep safe and well this Christmas, then that’s the most important thing.
That said, we would still love to see you - we’re getting good at finding our way through these challenges! We know that Christmas is a time to be with family and friends and that no matter how ‘small’ Christmas will be, we still want to be able to share it with this wonderful community we call Kenilworth. So here’s what we’ll be doing over the next week or two and we hope you can get involved.
As some of you may know, for the past six months we have been cooking meals every week for some of the most vulnerable people in Kenilworth - coordinated by the amazing work of the COVID-19 Kenilworth Support Group. We’re looking forward to making a special Christmas meal for them next week - and for those of you that have helped fund this, a very big thank you. If you do want to help us keep this going, please do call us - all donations no matter how small make a big difference.
This Sunday we’ll be running our ‘Pub at Home’ Sunday roast. So save yourself the washing up and order your roast chicken to share, or rare roast beef with pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and all the sides, and even treat yourself to one of our delicious bottles of red. We’ll have festive mini-kegs of ale and even mulled wine. Check out our menu, give us a ring to place your order and collect from the pub this Sunday between 11am - 3pm.
From Monday 21st December, and running through until Christmas Eve, we’ll have a selection of Christmas treats and gifts served from 4pm - 8pm each day. If you can’t come to the pub, we can certainly make sure we bring the pub to you. We’ll have some amazing festive food and drink hampers, with our signature homemade festive sausage rolls, duck rillette, hand selected cheeses, chutneys and pickles.
We’ll also have some savoury festive food wreaths to share - an amazing grazing treat to enjoy with family. These include brie, salami, figs, smoked salmon, pickles, olives, artichokes and more besides! In case that’s not enough, we’re also hard at work in the kitchen baking delicious, family-size Christmas chocolate logs. Indulge in light sponge, rolled with cream, smothered in chocolate ganache with honeycomb, nuts and cranberries!
We know you’ll want a tipple or two to wash all that down and so we’ve got our hands on some more Everard’s ale mini-kegs. They make a great Christmas present but hurry because when they’re gone, they’re gone! We’re also putting together some festive drinks hampers, with our craft ales, artisan soft drinks and delicious wines. Don’t forget we have our Virgins & Castle gift vouchers available if you want to treat a loved one ready for whenever we can re-open in the New Year.
One last thing to put in your Christmas diary is that you can enjoy Boxing Day at the front of the pub. With some warming mulled wine, comforting hot chocolate, a winter BBQ of hot food treats and a Christmas smile (behind our face masks). Make sure you add a visit to the Virgins & Castle on your Boxing Day walk.
Thank you once again for all of your support this year - it certainly hasn’t been easy for anyone and we look forward to another re-opening in 2021! No matter how many tricky times we might have ahead of us, there will be better times for us all to enjoy together soon.
Take care, very best wishes and we look forward to seeing you.
Merry Christmas !
